French Language Upskilling for
Primary Teachers

In preparation for the introduction of foreign languages as part of the Primary Curriculum Framework for Stages 3 and 4 of Primary School, this online summer course provides French language up-skilling for primary teachers.

Participants will study 5 Modules:

  1. Developing confidence in French pronunciation
  2. Strategies for language teaching
  3. Making French fun! Looking at fun ways to teach Primary French.
  4. Developing cultural awareness.
  5. The use of technology in the foreign language classroom.

✔️EPV Days approved by the Irish Department of Education.

✔️20 hour self-paced course (10 hours online and 10 hours independent study and research)

✔️ Email access to course tutor.

✔️Participants will receive a Department of Education Certificate upon successful completion of all aspects of the course.


NB. Participants must use their name as registered with the Teaching Council and provide their Teaching Council Registration Number.

Meet the Tutor and Course Creator!


Tracy Mulholland has been teaching secondary languages in Northern Ireland for 26 years.

She currently teaches French from Key Stage 3 (age 11 Beginners) to Key Stage 5 (age 17-18), as well as Key Stage 3 Spanish.

In 2023, she completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Blended Learning, which inspired her to start Crafty Little Linguists and develop her own courses. During this school year (2025-26), Crafty Little Linguists has been working directly with Irish primary school teachers in collaboration with Languages Connect and Post-Primary Languages Ireland as a Primary Languages Upskilling Provider.

This is the third year of our successful summer course 'Fundamentals of Teaching Primary French'. In 2026, Tracy is delighted to be running three Irish Department of Education EPV Approved online summer courses!
